Better Decisions with the Power of Predictability

Assessment software, training, and consulting for upstream oil and gas.

Practical Consultation – Oil & Gas Play, Prospect & Portfolio analysis

Practical Consultation helps companies achieve their predictive and performance goals by matching the solutions to the scope of the problem. We call it “fit-for-purpose” consulting.

Rosera

Prospect Risk Assessment Software That Empowers Your Decision Making.

Build resource and chance assessments, from simple single zone, to complex opportunities with multiple zones in multiple fault blocks, stratigraphic levels, and wells. Harness R&A’s expertise in uncertainty and risk analysis, seamlessly embedded in the RoseRA tool.

Play-Based Assessment of Unconventional Opportunities

This course focuses on the assessment of unconventional plays and the identification of initial well locations within them. The course is centered around a seven-stage exercise in a shale play where participants 1) build maps to spatially quantify in-place oil/gas richness per square mile, 2) identify target acreage by overlaying maps with components affecting producibility, and 3) estimate play chance, establish value for candidate blocks, and formulate an entry strategy. The goal is to expose participants to all the key concepts and steps in the unconventional play-based assessment process, and then apply these to a real-life competitive bidding situation.

Select from a multitude of input distributions, apply correlation and graphically QC input distributions.

Realistic and unbiased pre-drill estimates

RoseRA provides instant feedback to users when creating distributions, ensuring that the extreme ends (P99 and P01) can be reality checked. Competing tools make this cumbersome, resulting in the user skipping this crucial step which can lead to unrealistic and biased pre-drill estimates. As shown in the graphic below, different distributions can be selected for specific parameters, and correlations can be modeled between different inputs.

New in 2023

RoseRA focuses on Geological Carbon Storage (GCS, a synonym for CCS) by supporting the modeling of possible CO2 storage mass for six different reservoir types. The input parameters contributing to the simulated CO2 storage yield change for each of the injection reservoirs. When combined with the rock volume, RoseRA calculates the potential range of injected/sequestered CO2 mass. Tornado charts, tabular data outputs for all inputs/outputs, dashboards, and trial-level results are presented to the user to facilitate rapid QC and further interrogation.

RoseRA runs on a standard Windows PC and requires no third-party software. Files are stored in a standard industry format readable by web-browser extensions and other tools. File simulation results can be stored and retrieved as needed.

To enable Day-1 operation, and to be able to effectively communicate prospect evaluations, RoseRA embeds concepts taught in R&A’s Risk Analysis, Prospect Evaluation and Exploration Economics and Prospect Resources Assessment – Applied courses.

  • Size your CO2 processing facilities to maximize carbon credits and project value
  • Understand the impact on project economics such as carbon storage efficiency and injection well costs
  • Compare alternate CCS projects on an EMV basis
  • Design appraisal programs to fail early and preserve capital at risk for other projects

MULTIPLE PLAY SEGMENTS

The basic unit of project investigation is the segment, which may be defined spatially or stratigraphically, whenever you need a different type curve. Results from the resource assessment and cash flow are output for both the individual segments and the project aggregate. This rapidly helps identify those segments that should be pursued or divested.

STAGED INVESTMENTS

Pre-Development projects may be divided into stages to reduce the possibility of a sub-commercial development and to minimize the capital at risk. Project models the following customizable stages:

Discovery: tests whether the petroleum system is viable.

Deliverability: tests the project against a threshold rate.

Demonstration: tests the project for commerciality.

Development: drills the wells in your specified acreage position

tools to position companies for future growth

Creaming Curves

Creaming Curves plot discoveries in chronological order to evaluate the maturity of a play or basin.

Ternary Plots

Use the Ternary Plot to explore three component variables to understand each component’s contribution to the total. For example, easily visualize shales’ quartz, clay and carbonate percentages to compare different shale’s productivity based on fracturing and stimulation viability.

Chance of Success and Dry Hole Analysis

Gain insight into the uncertainty of chance based on the historical number of successful and failed wells for a play. The chance uncertainty is greater with fewer wells and narrows as more wells are included.

Understand and model the Gambler’s Ruin probability (all wells are dry) and the likely number of discoveries given an average chance for your drilling program.

QC Of The Prospect Inventory

Extract key rock volume and hydrocarbon yield data for a multitude of prospects to inspect and reality check the estimates used to calculate the volumetrics. Quickly identifying potentially biased estimates ensures consistency and helps removes any biases from the prospect database Crossplots of any key quantitative and qualitative attributes for multiple prospects can be charted to identify more favorable opportunities and outliers.
